Our Reach family had wonderful years in Decatur, Georgia in the 1950's. Daddy was a Special Revenue Investigator at the State Capitol and our sister Patsy would be working at Rich's. Mama was sad to leave her friends in Waycross, but when Kenny, Tommy and I saw the huge Atlanta skyline, we knew all would be fine.
This was the hub of Decatur, surrounded by shops, interesting stores, diners, record shops, even a movie theater, and lots more.
Our Decatur High band marched all around the square and up McDonough. Many parades and activities were held here for this was Action Central In the 1950's.
Kenny, Tommy and I spent many happy days inside, outside, around, and being involved in learning while taking part in sports and activities.
The Reach teens each had their own unique times with their own sets of friends while enjoying Decatur High School.
The star of the neighborhood was Kenny's souped up car with glass-packed mufflers.
Tommy and Kenny soon joined in with me, Beverly, Carol, Robert and others.
Cool cars, cool kids, and lots of friends having fun.
